Preserve Your Precious Memories with
DVideo!
Many will remember when growing up of
viewing film taken by their parents of
special family events such as weddings,
birthday parties and new babies with
embarrassing bare backsides crawling on the
rug or being bounced on a favourite
relative’s knee.
In most cases these films are the ONLY COPY
and cannot be recovered if lost or destroyed
by fire or some other disastrous event.
Not only can these now be transferred to a
digital medium that will no longer
deteriorate, copies can be made of these
heirlooms for storage in separate locations.
Just think of the opportunity to
transfer your precious memories to DVD
and give them to family members as
very unique gifts for future
generations to enjoy as well.
Today’s technology often provides a
far superior image than was able to
be viewed with the original film. Who would
have thought that you can get clear
freeze frame pictures better than
the original? |

Time is running out
for transferring 8mm home movies to DVD or
other digital formats.
There are two main
reasons for this:
1. As film ages, chemicals used in the
development process breakdown and cause
colour to fade over time, the film to become
brittle and deteriorate. If your film emits
a vinegar like smell
it is a sure sign that it is badly
deteriorating and should be immediately
separated
from other good reels. If you're not sure of
the condition of the film, contact us and
we'd be happy to advise you.
2. Secondly, manufacturers stopped making
8mm film projectors over twenty years ago,
and finding bulbs or spare parts for them is
becoming increasingly difficult as time goes
by. Older films also tend to scratch as they
are played and if brittle run the risk of
damaging the small sprocket holes required
for smooth projection.
It may soon become impossible to ever view
the actual films again. |

Quality
Working with 8mm film
in particular requires the utmost care and
attention, our recovery process will not
harm your film but we do recommend that
film, if not brought to our premises is sent
via a secure and traceable means.
We use the latest digital technology to
transfer your memories. Obviously quality is
dependant on the original source material
however the converted file is scanned by us
and in fact is always enhanced by adjusting
brightness, contrast or colour.
Now we could tell you about how we capture
the image using a wet gate, frame by frame
optical system but to most people this just
doesn’t mean much. But if you really want to
know we will gladly explain it"
We thought it is better to show you frames
here opposite which were taken from a 39
year old movie. Judge for yourself, remember
this is an actual single 8mm frame copied
and reproduced as a small size web image.
At present most customers prefer that we
record transferred film onto high quality
DVD-R discs that will play in most hardware.
Alternative formats are Mini DV, VHS, VCD,
SCVD we are happy to discuss these options
with you.

High Definition
Digital Quality
This is a step
up again in quality that requires
High Definition hardware to view.
Televisions and players capable of utilising
this format are slowly entering the New
Zealand market. The file sizes are
significant in comparison to standard DVDs.
Should you opt for High Definition
reproduction
or both? Plan for the extra quality
available in the next generation technology
while still enjoying films on DVDs playable
on most hardware commonly in use today.
Will the media change again? Most likely,
however your film will now be in a
convertible digital format.
Services:
We offer digital movie transfer by optical
printing and image restoration for small
